Their names are the 12 Earthly Branches, 8 of the Heavenly Stems (Wu and Ji are left out) and the 4 trigrams Qian, Kun, Gen and Xun; Zi sits at due north. - Vietnamese: 24 sơn - English: 24 Mountains - Chinese: 二十四山 - Chinese characters: 二十四山 - Also called: Twenty-four mountains · 24 sơn · Er Shi Si Shan #### Explanation Each trigram of the bagua spans 45° and holds exactly three mountains. Kan in the north holds Ren, Zi and Gui; Xun in the southeast holds Chen, Xun and Si. Because each mountain is only 15° wide, two homes that both "face southeast" may sit in three different mountains. That is why quantitative feng shui always reads orientation as a degree first, then converts it to a mountain, instead of naming one of eight directions. #### How Home Check uses it Home Check measures orientation by exact degree and reads the mountain, trigram and sitting direction at once; every mountain has its own page in this knowledge base. — [Compass & site reading](https://myhomecheck.ai/compass) #### Related terms - [Sitting and facing](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/sitting-and-facing): Sitting is the side a house leans its back against; facing is the side it looks out from. - [Bagua](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/bagua): The bagua are the eight three-line trigrams of the I Ching: Qian, Kan, Gen, Zhen, Xun, Li, Kun and Dui. - [Set polarity](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/set-polarity): Setting polarity means finding the centre of a house on its floor plan and placing the compass there, turned to the measured facing degree. #### Questions ##### Why does the compass use 24 mountains rather than 8 directions? Each of the eight directions is 45° wide — too coarse to read a house. Splitting the circle into 24 mountains of 15° tells apart homes that differ by only a few dozen degrees. ##### Why are there no Wu and Ji mountains? Wu and Ji belong to Earth at the centre and match no point on the circle, so the 24 mountains use only the other eight Heavenly Stems. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/twenty-four-mountains ### Set polarity (立极) > Setting polarity means finding the centre of a house on its floor plan and placing the compass there, turned to the measured facing degree. Once polarity is set, every room, door and object knows which sector and which mountain it lies in. - Vietnamese: Lập cực - English: Set polarity - Chinese: 立极 - Chinese characters: 立极 - Also called: Lập cực · Setting the compass on a plan #### Explanation It involves two steps: locating the centre (the pole) of the plan, and rotating the 24-mountain and bagua rings to match the real orientation of the house. For a rectangle, the centre is usually where the diagonals cross; for L-shaped or many-sided homes, it has to be computed from the actual shape. An error of a few degrees can push the main door or the kitchen into the next mountain, so every feng shui check on a plan starts here. #### How Home Check uses it Home Check sets polarity by the exact degree, finds the centre from the true shape of the plan, then lays the 24 mountains and the bagua over the drawing to check every position. — [Feng shui check & fix](https://myhomecheck.ai/feng-shui) #### Related terms - [Center palace](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/center-palace): The center palace is the middle square of the nine palaces, around the centre of the house; in the Lo Shu it holds the number 5 and the Earth element. - [24 Mountains](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/twenty-four-mountains): The 24 mountains divide the 360° compass into 24 equal sectors of 15°, each called a mountain. - [Sitting and facing](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/sitting-and-facing): Sitting is the side a house leans its back against; facing is the side it looks out from. - [Nine palaces (Lo Shu)](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/nine-palaces-lo-shu): The nine palaces are a 3×3 grid that divides a plan into eight palaces around a centre palace. #### Questions ##### On a multi-storey house, which floor sets the polarity? Usually the ground floor; the upper floors belong to the same house and share its orientation. In Home Check, if a floor differs from the ground floor, the app asks you to confirm before setting polarity. ##### How is setting polarity different from measuring direction? Measuring gives you one degree. Setting polarity places that degree on the plan, around the true centre, so you know which sector each room is in. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/set-polarity ### Sitting and facing (坐向) > Sitting is the side a house leans its back against; facing is the side it looks out from. The two are always exactly 180° apart: a house facing 135° (the Xun mountain) sits at 315° (the Qian mountain) — a Qian-sitting, Xun-facing house. - Vietnamese: Tọa – Hướng - English: Sitting and facing - Chinese: 坐向 - Chinese characters: 坐向 - Also called: Tọa – Hướng · Zuo Xiang · Sitting mountain and facing mountain #### Explanation For homes, facing is usually measured from the façade and main door looking outward: stand on the threshold with your back to the house and face the street. The degree you read is the facing; add or subtract 180° for the sitting. The formula "sitting X, facing Y" names a mountain at both ends, so one degree is enough to name both correctly. #### How Home Check uses it When you measure, Home Check shows the degree, the facing mountain and the sitting mountain together; on the plan, the facing bar always points to the main door. — [Compass & site reading](https://myhomecheck.ai/compass) #### Related terms - [24 Mountains](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/twenty-four-mountains): The 24 mountains divide the 360° compass into 24 equal sectors of 15°, each called a mountain. - [Main door as qi intake](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/main-door-qi-intake): The main door as qi intake is the idea that the main door is the mouth of the home (the qi mouth), where outside energy comes in. - [Set polarity](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/set-polarity): Setting polarity means finding the centre of a house on its floor plan and placing the compass there, turned to the measured facing degree. #### Questions ##### Is facing taken from the main door or from the façade? In most townhouses the main door is on the façade, so they agree. When the main door is clearly on a side wall, record both degrees for your feng shui master; in Home Check the facing bar follows the main door. ##### Does sitting matter as much as facing? Yes. Sitting is the home's support, and readings such as the birth-year mountain or the altar look at the sitting side too. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/sitting-and-facing ### Bagua (八卦) > The bagua are the eight three-line trigrams of the I Ching: Qian, Kan, Gen, Zhen, Xun, Li, Kun and Dui. Each is built from solid (yang) and broken (yin) lines; on the compass, each trigram governs a 45° sector. - Vietnamese: Bát quái - English: Bagua - Chinese: 八卦 - Chinese characters: 八卦 - Also called: Bát quái · Eight trigrams #### Explanation In the Later Heaven arrangement used for homes: Kan is north, Gen northeast, Zhen east, Xun southeast, Li south, Kun southwest, Dui west and Qian northwest. Each trigram contains three of the 24 mountains and carries one of the five elements: Kan Water, Li Fire, Zhen and Xun Wood, Qian and Dui Metal, Gen and Kun Earth. Classical source: I Ching — Great Commentary (Xici) and Discussion of the Trigrams (Shuo Gua) #### How Home Check uses it After setting polarity, Home Check lays the bagua ring over the plan so each room knows its trigram and sector. — [Feng shui check & fix](https://myhomecheck.ai/feng-shui) #### Related terms - [Early Heaven and Later Heaven bagua](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/early-and-later-heaven-bagua): Early Heaven and Later Heaven are two arrangements of the eight trigrams around a circle. - [Nine palaces (Lo Shu)](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/nine-palaces-lo-shu): The nine palaces are a 3×3 grid that divides a plan into eight palaces around a centre palace. - [24 Mountains](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/twenty-four-mountains): The 24 mountains divide the 360° compass into 24 equal sectors of 15°, each called a mountain. #### Questions ##### Is the compass bagua the same as a bagua mirror over a door? Same eight trigrams, but on the compass the bagua is a coordinate system for reading direction; a bagua mirror is a folk remedy, not a measuring tool. ##### Where is the bottom line of a trigram on the compass? The bottom line sits toward the centre and the top line toward the rim — trigrams read from the inside out. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/bagua ### Early Heaven and Later Heaven bagua (先天八卦 · 后天八卦) > Early Heaven and Later Heaven are two arrangements of the eight trigrams around a circle. Early Heaven (Fu Xi) places Qian in the south and Kun in the north, describing the balance of heaven and earth; Later Heaven (King Wen) places Li in the south and Kan in the north and is used for directions and change. - Vietnamese: Tiên Thiên và Hậu Thiên bát quái - English: Early Heaven and Later Heaven bagua - Chinese: 先天八卦与后天八卦 - Chinese characters: 先天八卦 · 后天八卦 - Also called: Tiên Thiên / Hậu Thiên bát quái · Fu Xi bagua · King Wen bagua #### Explanation The Shuo Gua commentary of the I Ching describes Early Heaven as "Heaven and earth set their places, mountain and lake exchange their breath, thunder and wind stir each other, water and fire do not oppose" — each pair of trigrams faces across the centre. Later Heaven begins "the Lord comes forth in Zhen": energy rises in the east and travels through the four seasons. Home feng shui uses Later Heaven to assign trigrams to the eight directions; Early Heaven appears in some water methods and trigram pairings. Classical source: I Ching — Discussion of the Trigrams (Shuo Gua) #### How Home Check uses it The nine-palace grid and bagua ring on Home Check plans follow Later Heaven, with north at the top like a map. — [Feng shui check & fix](https://myhomecheck.ai/feng-shui) #### Related terms - [Bagua](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/bagua): The bagua are the eight three-line trigrams of the I Ching: Qian, Kan, Gen, Zhen, Xun, Li, Kun and Dui. - [Nine palaces (Lo Shu)](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/nine-palaces-lo-shu): The nine palaces are a 3×3 grid that divides a plan into eight palaces around a centre palace. - [Center palace](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/center-palace): The center palace is the middle square of the nine palaces, around the centre of the house; in the Lo Shu it holds the number 5 and the Earth element. #### Questions ##### Should a home use Early Heaven or Later Heaven? To assign a direction to each room, home feng shui uses Later Heaven. Early Heaven still appears in some calculations, but not to divide a house into eight sectors. ##### Why do old books draw south at the top? Traditionally the reader faces south, so south is drawn at the top. Home Check draws north at the top to match maps and architectural plans; the trigrams stay in the same places. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/early-and-later-heaven-bagua ### Nine palaces (Lo Shu) (九宫 · 洛书) > The nine palaces are a 3×3 grid that divides a plan into eight palaces around a centre palace. In the Lo Shu square, the numbers 1 to 9 are arranged so every row, column and diagonal adds up to 15; each number belongs to one direction and one trigram. - Vietnamese: Cửu cung (Lạc Thư) - English: Nine palaces (Lo Shu) - Chinese: 九宫(洛书) - Chinese characters: 九宫 · 洛书 - Also called: Cửu cung · Lo Shu square · Luo Shu #### Explanation The traditional verse runs "wear nine, tread on one, three on the left, seven on the right, two and four are the shoulders, six and eight the feet, five dwells in the centre": 9 south, 1 north, 3 east, 7 west, 2 southwest, 4 southeast, 6 northwest, 8 northeast, 5 at the centre. Drawn like a map with north at the top, the rows read 6 · 1 · 8, then 7 · 5 · 3, then 2 · 9 · 4. Classical source: Lo Shu (ancient number diagram, mentioned in the I Ching's Great Commentary) #### How Home Check uses it Home Check uses the Later Heaven nine-palace grid with north at the top; the centre palace on this site and in the app is the Home Check logo. - [Bagua](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/bagua): The bagua are the eight three-line trigrams of the I Ching: Qian, Kan, Gen, Zhen, Xun, Li, Kun and Dui. - [Xuan Kong Flying Stars](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/flying-stars): Xuan Kong Flying Stars is a feng shui school in which nine stars, numbered 1 to 9, fly through the nine palaces in Lo Shu order. - [Five Yellow](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/five-yellow): The Five Yellow is star number 5 among the nine stars; each year it flies to a different direction in Lo Shu order. #### Questions ##### How do the nine palaces differ from the bagua? The bagua divides a circle into eight directions; the nine palaces add a centre square, making a grid of nine. The eight outer squares match the eight trigrams. ##### Is the grid drawn as squares or as rays from the centre? Both are common: a 3×3 grid over the house outline, or 45° rays from the centre. On long, narrow houses they can disagree near the corners, so say which one you use. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/nine-palaces-lo-shu ### Center palace (中宫) > The center palace is the middle square of the nine palaces, around the centre of the house; in the Lo Shu it holds the number 5 and the Earth element. It connects every direction, so feng shui wants it open, clean and stable. - Vietnamese: Trung cung - English: Center palace - Chinese: 中宫 - Chinese characters: 中宫 - Also called: Trung cung · Centre of the house #### Explanation Belonging to no direction, the center palace has no trigram. Many schools advise against placing a WC, a kitchen or a heavy closed block there, and prefer shared space or a light well. Its position depends on the centre found when setting polarity, so an L-shaped house has a center palace that is off the middle of the plot. #### How Home Check uses it When setting polarity, Home Check finds the centre and center palace from the true shape of the plan, then checks what sits there. — [Feng shui check & fix](https://myhomecheck.ai/feng-shui) #### Related terms - [Nine palaces (Lo Shu)](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/nine-palaces-lo-shu): The nine palaces are a 3×3 grid that divides a plan into eight palaces around a centre palace. - [Set polarity](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/set-polarity): Setting polarity means finding the centre of a house on its floor plan and placing the compass there, turned to the measured facing degree. - [Light well](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/light-well): A light well is a vertical void open to the sky that brings light and air into the middle of a house. #### Questions ##### Is a staircase in the center palace a problem? It depends on the school and the stair. An open staircase is generally accepted; a heavy enclosed block, such as a lift with solid walls, is something many masters advise against. Ask a master to look at the plan after setting polarity. ##### Is the center palace the middle of the plot? Not necessarily. It follows the centre of the house, not of the land; a house built off-centre or with a missing corner shifts it too. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/center-palace ### Five elements (五行) > The five elements are Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth, linked by two cycles. Generating: Wood feeds Fire, Fire makes Earth, Earth bears Metal, Metal carries Water, Water nourishes Wood. Controlling: Wood controls Earth, Earth controls Water, Water controls Fire, Fire controls Metal, Metal controls Wood. - Vietnamese: Ngũ hành - English: Five elements - Chinese: 五行 - Chinese characters: 五行 - Also called: Ngũ hành · Wu Xing #### Explanation On the compass, every mountain and trigram carries an element. In the standard elements of the 24 mountains: Ren, Zi, Gui and Hai are Water; Jia, Yi, Yin, Mao and Xun are Wood; Bing, Ding, Si and Wu are Fire; Geng, Xin, Shen, You and Qian are Metal; Chen, Xu, Chou, Wei, Gen and Kun are Earth. A reading compares the element of a sector with the element of what is placed there — a stove is Fire, water is Water. #### How Home Check uses it Each mountain page in this knowledge base lists its element; when checking feng shui, Home Check uses the elements of the sector and of the item to explain why a position is good or needs adjusting. — [Feng shui check & fix](https://myhomecheck.ai/feng-shui) #### Related terms - [24 Mountains](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/twenty-four-mountains): The 24 mountains divide the 360° compass into 24 equal sectors of 15°, each called a mountain. - [Bagua](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/bagua): The bagua are the eight three-line trigrams of the I Ching: Qian, Kan, Gen, Zhen, Xun, Li, Kun and Dui. #### Questions ##### Is a mountain's element always the same as its trigram's? Mostly, but not always: the Yin mountain lies in the Gen trigram (Earth) yet Yin itself is Wood. So both are checked. ##### Is a controlling relationship always bad? No. Control is a relationship, sometimes used to restrain an energy that is too strong. Good or bad depends on position, degree and the item. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/five-elements ### Birth-year mountain (年命山) > A person's birth-year mountain is the compass mountain that shares the Earthly Branch of their birth year. Someone born in a Zi year has the Zi mountain at due north; someone born in a Wu year has the Wu mountain at due south. The year is counted from the Start of Spring. - Vietnamese: Sơn tuổi - English: Birth-year mountain - Chinese: 年命山 - Chinese characters: 年命山 - Also called: Sơn tuổi · Nian Ming Shan #### Explanation In home feng shui, many schools take note when the main door, or an unclean or very active item, falls exactly on a resident's birth-year mountain — a "birth-year mountain clash". Since each person has their own birth year, one house can clash with one resident and not another; the wording should be specific: which mountain, whose. #### How Home Check uses it Home Check compares each household member's birth-year mountain with the items on the plan after setting polarity, and states it plainly — for example, “Main door on the Zi birth-year mountain — male head of household”. — [Feng shui check & fix](https://myhomecheck.ai/feng-shui) #### Related terms - [24 Mountains](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/twenty-four-mountains): The 24 mountains divide the 360° compass into 24 equal sectors of 15°, each called a mountain. - [Main door as qi intake](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/main-door-qi-intake): The main door as qi intake is the idea that the main door is the mouth of the home (the qi mouth), where outside energy comes in. #### Questions ##### Whose birth year is needed? At least the head of household's; ideally everyone living in the home, since each person has their own birth-year mountain. ##### Does a clash mean the house must be rebuilt? Not necessarily. It depends on the item and position; often moving one object is enough. Look at the specific finding on the plan before deciding. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/birth-year-mountain ### Prosperous and weak sectors (旺方 · 衰方) > Prosperous sectors are the parts of a home considered to have strong, favourable energy for its orientation; weak sectors have faint energy. Knowing which is which guides where bedrooms, bed heads, desks and kitchens go. - Vietnamese: Phương vượng – phương suy - English: Prosperous and weak sectors - Chinese: 旺方与衰方 - Chinese characters: 旺方 · 衰方 - Also called: Phương vượng – phương suy · Auspicious and inauspicious sectors #### Explanation Each school calculates them its own way. The Eight Mansions school, for example, divides the eight directions into four favourable sectors (Sheng Qi, Tian Yi, Yan Nian, Fu Wei) and four unfavourable ones (Jue Ming, Wu Gui, Liu Sha, Huo Hai) according to the house's trigram. Prosperous and weak always depend on the measured orientation, so they mean something only after polarity is set correctly. #### How Home Check uses it On the Measure screen, Home Check shows an eight-sector ring with the home's prosperous sectors, weak sectors, door and death point for the degree you just measured. — [Compass & site reading](https://myhomecheck.ai/compass) #### Related terms - [Death point](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/death-point): The death point is the sector where, given the house's orientation, energy is considered most depleted. - [Bed head](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/bed-head): The bed head is where the pillow lies and the sleeper's head rests. - [Sitting and facing](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/sitting-and-facing): Sitting is the side a house leans its back against; facing is the side it looks out from. #### Questions ##### Are the prosperous sectors the same in every home? No. They change with the house's orientation; two neighbouring homes facing differently have different prosperous sectors. ##### What if a room sits in a weak sector? Use it for spaces people do not stay in long, such as storage or a WC, or arrange the main furniture toward the better part of the room. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/prosperous-and-weak-sectors ### Death point (死点) > The death point is the sector where, given the house's orientation, energy is considered most depleted. In a home, things that need living energy — above all the bed head — should avoid it. - Vietnamese: Điểm tử - English: Death point - Chinese: 死点 - Chinese characters: 死点 - Also called: Điểm tử · Death sector #### Explanation The death point is a term in Home Check's sector reading, alongside prosperous and weak sectors. It can only be found once the house's orientation is known as a degree. Knowing the death point does not mean leaving that part of the home empty: it is enough to keep key positions, such as the bed head, from pointing into it. #### How Home Check uses it The eight-sector ring on the Measure screen marks the home's death point; when you try a bed on the plan, Home Check flags it at once if the bed head falls there. — [Compass & site reading](https://myhomecheck.ai/compass) #### Related terms - [Prosperous and weak sectors](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/prosperous-and-weak-sectors): Prosperous sectors are the parts of a home considered to have strong, favourable energy for its orientation; weak sectors have faint energy. - [Bed head](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/bed-head): The bed head is where the pillow lies and the sleeper's head rests. - [Set polarity](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/set-polarity): Setting polarity means finding the centre of a house on its floor plan and placing the compass there, turned to the measured facing degree. #### Questions ##### Is the death point the worst sector for everything? It mainly matters for positions that need living energy, such as the bed head. Secondary rooms in that sector are not automatically a fault. ##### Does the death point change each year? The death point that follows the house's orientation is fixed for that house. Yearly factors, such as the Five Yellow, are read separately. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/death-point ### Xuan Kong Flying Stars (玄空飞星) > Xuan Kong Flying Stars is a feng shui school in which nine stars, numbered 1 to 9, fly through the nine palaces in Lo Shu order. Their positions depend on the 20-year period and on the house's sitting and facing, so the same orientation reads differently in each period. - Vietnamese: Huyền Không phi tinh - English: Xuan Kong Flying Stars - Chinese: 玄空飞星 - Chinese characters: 玄空飞星 - Also called: Huyền Không phi tinh · Flying Stars · Xuan Kong Fei Xing #### Explanation Each period lasts 20 years; three periods make a cycle of 60 years and three cycles make 180 years. The years 2024–2043 are Period 9. From the period star, the mountain and facing stars are placed in the nine palaces to build the house's star chart. The school was systematised by Shen Zhureng in the late Qing dynasty, published as Shen's Study of Xuan Kong, and is still widely used. Classical source: Shen's Xuan Kong Studies (Shen Zhureng, late Qing dynasty) #### Related terms - [Nine palaces (Lo Shu)](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/nine-palaces-lo-shu): The nine palaces are a 3×3 grid that divides a plan into eight palaces around a centre palace. - [Five Yellow](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/five-yellow): The Five Yellow is star number 5 among the nine stars; each year it flies to a different direction in Lo Shu order. - [Sitting and facing](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/sitting-and-facing): Sitting is the side a house leans its back against; facing is the side it looks out from. #### Questions ##### What is Period 9? The 20 years from 2024 to 2043 in the three-cycle, nine-period calendar; in Xuan Kong, star 9 is the timely star of this period. ##### Can Flying Stars replace Eight Mansions? The two schools rest on different foundations and are often used together. How they are combined is up to the master. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/flying-stars ### Five Yellow (五黄) > The Five Yellow is star number 5 among the nine stars; each year it flies to a different direction in Lo Shu order. Traditional feng shui treats it as a heavy afflicting star and advises against breaking ground or major renovation in its direction that year. - Vietnamese: Ngũ Hoàng - English: Five Yellow - Chinese: 五黄 - Chinese characters: 五黄 - Also called: Ngũ Hoàng · Wu Huang · Five Yellow star #### Explanation In the Lo Shu, 5 sits at the centre. As it flies out to the eight directions by year and month, the Five Yellow is said to bring harmful energy where it lands, especially if that sector is disturbed by digging or demolition. Because its position changes every year, it is always read together with the timing of the work, not only with the house. #### Related terms - [Xuan Kong Flying Stars](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/flying-stars): Xuan Kong Flying Stars is a feng shui school in which nine stars, numbered 1 to 9, fly through the nine palaces in Lo Shu order. - [Nine palaces (Lo Shu)](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/nine-palaces-lo-shu): The nine palaces are a 3×3 grid that divides a plan into eight palaces around a centre palace. #### Questions ##### If the Five Yellow reaches the door's direction, must the door move? No. The usual advice is to avoid starting work or breaking walls in that sector during the year and to keep it quiet. ##### Is the year's Five Yellow sector the same for every house? Yes. In a given year the Five Yellow sits in the same direction for every house; what differs is which room of your home falls in that sector. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/five-yellow ### Water method (水法) > Water methods read how water moves around a site — where it comes from, where it gathers and where it leaves — and compare it with the house's sitting and facing to judge good and bad. In cities, streets are read as water too. - Vietnamese: Thủy pháp - English: Water method - Chinese: 水法 - Chinese characters: 水法 - Also called: Thủy pháp · Shui Fa · Water reading #### Explanation The Book of Burial says: "Qi rides the wind and scatters; it meets water and stops." Water holds energy, so its course is studied as carefully as the house's orientation. Every school has its own rules; what they share is the need to know exactly, as a degree, where water arrives and where it leaves (the Water Mouth). Classical source: The Book of Burial (Guo Pu, Jin dynasty) #### How Home Check uses it On the Measure screen, Home Check locates the Water Mouth at three levels — Grand, Middle and Small scale — around the site, and lets you pin Dragon Entry, Sha and Water Mouth by hand. — [Compass & site reading](https://myhomecheck.ai/compass) #### Related terms - [Water Mouth](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/water-mouth): The Water Mouth is where water leaves a site or the bright hall in front of a house, measured as a degree from the centre of the home. - [Bright hall](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/bright-hall): The bright hall is the open space in front of a house where energy gathers before entering the main door. - [Hide the wind, gather the qi](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/hide-wind-gather-qi): "Hide the wind, gather the qi" — shelter from wind and energy is kept — is the root principle of feng shui. #### Questions ##### Does a home far from rivers or lakes need a water reading? Yes. In cities, streets and lanes are read as small waterways (street water), and the slope of the land shows where rain runs. ##### How do water method and Water Mouth differ? The water method is the whole reading of water; the Water Mouth is one point in it — where water leaves the site. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/water-method ### Water Mouth (水口) > The Water Mouth is where water leaves a site or the bright hall in front of a house, measured as a degree from the centre of the home. Classical texts prefer a Water Mouth that is closed and winding, guarded by mounds or trees so energy does not drain away quickly. - Vietnamese: Thủy khẩu - English: Water Mouth - Chinese: 水口 - Chinese characters: 水口 - Also called: Thủy khẩu · Shui Kou · Water exit #### Explanation Its position is read as a mountain on the compass and compared with the sitting and facing; many water methods start their calculation from it. One home can be read at several ranges: the major river of the region, the terrain within a few kilometres, and the street right outside. These are the Grand, Middle and Small scales. #### How Home Check uses it Home Check marks the Water Mouth at three levels — Grand, Middle and Small scale — right on the map of the site, each point with a confidence level. — [Compass & site reading](https://myhomecheck.ai/compass) #### Related terms - [Grand scale](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/grand-scale): The grand scale is the widest range in reading landform and water: the rivers, lakes and major hills of the whole region around a site. - [Middle scale](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/middle-scale): The middle scale is the intermediate range in reading landform and water: the rise and fall of the land within a few kilometres of the site. - [Small scale](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/small-scale): The small scale is the range right around the house: the street, lane, yard and drains next to the site. - [Water method](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/water-method): Water methods read how water moves around a site — where it comes from, where it gathers and where it leaves — and compare it with the house's sitting and facing to judge good and bad. #### Questions ##### Where is the Water Mouth measured from? From the centre of the house (or of the land, when reading the land), reading the degree to the point where water leaves, then converting it to a mountain. ##### Can I pin the Water Mouth myself? Yes. Besides the automatic result, you can pin the Water Mouth by hand on the map in the Measure screen. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/water-mouth ### Grand scale (大局) > The grand scale is the widest range in reading landform and water: the rivers, lakes and major hills of the whole region around a site. At this scale, the Water Mouth is where the nearest large real waterway passes and leaves the area. - Vietnamese: Đại cuộc - English: Grand scale - Chinese: 大局 - Chinese characters: 大局 - Also called: Đại cuộc · Da Ju · Macro landscape #### Explanation The grand scale shows the overall context of energy — whether the home lies upstream or downstream, inside the embrace of a river bend or outside it. Because it is so wide, it rarely changes between houses on the same street, yet it is the root from which the middle and small scales are read. #### How Home Check uses it Home Check marks the grand-scale Water Mouth right on the map of the site, with a confidence level. — [Compass & site reading](https://myhomecheck.ai/compass) #### Related terms - [Middle scale](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/middle-scale): The middle scale is the intermediate range in reading landform and water: the rise and fall of the land within a few kilometres of the site. - [Small scale](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/small-scale): The small scale is the range right around the house: the street, lane, yard and drains next to the site. - [Water Mouth](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/water-mouth): The Water Mouth is where water leaves a site or the bright hall in front of a house, measured as a degree from the centre of the home. #### Questions ##### How wide is the grand scale? There is no fixed figure; it is wide enough to see the main water and hill systems of the region, usually several kilometres. ##### What if the grand scale is good but the small scale is poor? A good wider setting is an advantage, but what touches the house — streets, lanes, the door — still acts directly and needs attention. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/grand-scale ### Middle scale (中局) > The middle scale is the intermediate range in reading landform and water: the rise and fall of the land within a few kilometres of the site. It shows where rainwater and the energy of the land flow before reaching the street outside. - Vietnamese: Trung cuộc - English: Middle scale - Chinese: 中局 - Chinese characters: 中局 - Also called: Trung cuộc · Zhong Ju #### Explanation Contour lines are the main tool here: close lines mean steep ground, wide spacing means flat; water always runs at right angles to the contours, from high to low. The middle scale links the grand and small scales and explains why two neighbourhoods on the same river can sit on very different ground. #### How Home Check uses it Home Check reads the middle scale from the terrain around the site and draws contour lines automatically on the map. - [Small scale](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/small-scale): The small scale is the range right around the house: the street, lane, yard and drains next to the site. - [Contours](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/contour-lines): Contour lines join points of equal elevation on a terrain map. #### Questions ##### Does flat land have a middle scale? Yes. Even lowlands vary by a few metres, and those small differences decide which way water runs. ##### What is needed to read the middle scale? The site's location and the surrounding terrain; in Home Check, a project with a location is enough. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/middle-scale ### Small scale (小局) > The small scale is the range right around the house: the street, lane, yard and drains next to the site. In cities it is read mainly through street water — treating streets as waterways. - Vietnamese: Tiểu cuộc - English: Small scale - Chinese: 小局 - Chinese characters: 小局 - Also called: Tiểu cuộc · Xiao Ju #### Explanation The small scale acts most directly on the main door: which way traffic and people flow, where a road curves around the house or cuts toward it, T-junctions, dead ends. Since streets are only "virtual water", a small-scale reading always comes with a level of certainty — a clear main road is more reliable than a narrow path. #### How Home Check uses it Home Check locates the small-scale Water Mouth from street water and shows a confidence level, so you know how firm the result is. — [Compass & site reading](https://myhomecheck.ai/compass) #### Related terms - [Street water](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/street-water): Street water is the practice in urban water methods of treating streets and lanes as waterways, because flows of people and vehicles carry energy the way water does. - [Middle scale](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/middle-scale): The middle scale is the intermediate range in reading landform and water: the rise and fall of the land within a few kilometres of the site. - [Bright hall](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/bright-hall): The bright hall is the open space in front of a house where energy gathers before entering the main door. #### Questions ##### How is the small scale read for a house in an alley? The alley in front is the nearest waterway; the end where it opens onto a larger road is usually treated as where water leaves. ##### Why does the small scale have a confidence level? Because streets are not real water; the confidence level tells you how clear and continuous the street is, and so how much it deserves to be read as water. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/small-scale ### Street water (街道水 · 虚水) > Street water is the practice in urban water methods of treating streets and lanes as waterways, because flows of people and vehicles carry energy the way water does. The larger and busier the road, the stronger its street water. - Vietnamese: Phố thủy - English: Street water - Chinese: 街道水(虚水) - Chinese characters: 街道水 · 虚水 - Also called: Phố thủy · Virtual water · Xu Shui #### Explanation Chinese texts call roads "virtual water" to distinguish them from real rivers and lakes. A road that curves around a house is usually considered good; one that runs straight at the door is considered a clash. Street water is the main basis for the small scale in cities, where most homes cannot see a river or lake. #### How Home Check uses it Home Check uses street water to locate the small-scale Water Mouth around the site, with a confidence level. — [Compass & site reading](https://myhomecheck.ai/compass) #### Related terms - [Small scale](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/small-scale): The small scale is the range right around the house: the street, lane, yard and drains next to the site. - [Water Mouth](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/water-mouth): The Water Mouth is where water leaves a site or the bright hall in front of a house, measured as a degree from the centre of the home. - [Direct wind](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/direct-wind): Direct wind is a strong current of air that blows straight at the main door or rushes right through a house. #### Questions ##### Is a road pointing straight at the house poor street water? It is usually considered a clash of energy, especially when aimed at the main door. How strong depends on the road's width and distance. ##### Can street water replace real water? It complements rather than replaces. When a real river or lake is near, real water comes first; street water covers the range right by the house. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/street-water ### Dragon Entry (龙入首) > Dragon Entry is the last stretch of a dragon vein — a line of higher ground that carries energy — before it enters a site or house. On the compass it is recorded as a direction: the mountain through which the dragon enters, seen from the centre of the home. - Vietnamese: Long nhập thủ - English: Dragon Entry - Chinese: 龙入首 - Chinese characters: 龙入首 - Also called: Long nhập thủ · Long Ru Shou · Dragon's entry point #### Explanation "Dragon" is the long run of raised land — mountains, hills, mounds; "entry" is where it comes in. On plains and in cities, the dragon is often read as the higher ground and the solid mass behind the house. The mountain of the Dragon Entry is usually compared with the house's sitting to see whether they agree. #### How Home Check uses it On the Measure screen map you pin the Dragon Entry; the Home Check compass tells you which mountain it lies in relative to the centre of the house. — [Compass & site reading](https://myhomecheck.ai/compass) #### Related terms - [Dragon veins](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/dragon-veins): Dragon veins are lines that carry energy along ridges of higher ground — mountains, hills, mounds — like the veins of the earth. - [Sha (surrounding landforms)](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/sha-landforms): Sha are the mounds, hills or buildings around a site that shield it from wind and hold energy. - [Sitting and facing](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/sitting-and-facing): Sitting is the side a house leans its back against; facing is the side it looks out from. #### Questions ##### Does a townhouse have a Dragon Entry? It can be read, though it is harder to see than in hill country. Readers rely on the direction in which the ground rises and on large buildings behind. ##### How do Dragon Entry and dragon veins differ? The dragon vein is the whole line that carries energy; the Dragon Entry is only the final stretch where it reaches the site. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/dragon-entry ### Dragon veins (地脉) > Dragon veins are lines that carry energy along ridges of higher ground — mountains, hills, mounds — like the veins of the earth. Feng shui follows where a vein comes from, how it bends and where it stops to judge a piece of land. - Vietnamese: Địa mạch - English: Dragon veins - Chinese: 地脉 - Chinese characters: 地脉 - Also called: Địa mạch · Long mạch · Earth veins #### Explanation On a terrain map, dragon veins usually follow ridgelines — where contour lines bulge toward lower ground. The final stretch that enters a site is the Dragon Entry. Classical texts regard large-scale digging or levelling across a vein as harming the energy of the whole area. #### How Home Check uses it Home Check traces the dragon vein on the map — where the incoming dragon comes from and where it flows — to locate the Dragon Entry; you can also view contour lines and pin the Dragon Entry yourself. — [Compass & site reading](https://myhomecheck.ai/compass) #### Related terms - [Dragon Entry](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/dragon-entry): Dragon Entry is the last stretch of a dragon vein — a line of higher ground that carries energy — before it enters a site or house. - [Contours](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/contour-lines): Contour lines join points of equal elevation on a terrain map. - [Sha (surrounding landforms)](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/sha-landforms): Sha are the mounds, hills or buildings around a site that shield it from wind and hold energy. #### Questions ##### How are dragon veins found? By reading terrain: follow the ridges on a contour map and check them on site. ##### Do cities still have dragon veins? The original landform is still there beneath the buildings, but largely hidden; terrain and contour lines are then the most reliable guide. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/dragon-veins ### Sha (surrounding landforms) (砂) > Sha are the mounds, hills or buildings around a site that shield it from wind and hold energy. The four sides are named after the four guardians: Green Dragon on the left, White Tiger on the right, Red Phoenix in front and Black Tortoise behind — as seen from inside the house looking out. - Vietnamese: Sa - English: Sha (surrounding landforms) - Chinese: 砂 - Chinese characters: 砂 - Also called: Sa · Sha · Four celestial guardians #### Explanation Good sha are moderate, balanced and embrace the site; sha that are too tall, sharp, broken or pointing at the house are considered harmful. In cities, tall buildings, large trees and other masses are read as sha. In a reading, each sha's position is recorded as a mountain and its element compared with the house's sitting. #### How Home Check uses it On the Measure screen you pin sha on the map; Home Check reads the mountain of each one from the centre of the house and classifies it by its relation to the sitting. — [Compass & site reading](https://myhomecheck.ai/compass) #### Related terms - [Bright hall](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/bright-hall): The bright hall is the open space in front of a house where energy gathers before entering the main door. - [Dragon Entry](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/dragon-entry): Dragon Entry is the last stretch of a dragon vein — a line of higher ground that carries energy — before it enters a site or house. - [Hide the wind, gather the qi](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/hide-wind-gather-qi): "Hide the wind, gather the qi" — shelter from wind and energy is kept — is the root principle of feng shui. #### Questions ##### Is a neighbouring tower a sha? Yes, in cities large buildings are read as sha. A balanced mass behind gives support; a sharp corner aimed at the door deserves attention. ##### Which side is the Green Dragon? Stand inside, looking out through the main door: your left is the Green Dragon, your right the White Tiger. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/sha-landforms ### Bright hall (明堂) > The bright hall is the open space in front of a house where energy gathers before entering the main door. The near space (yard, porch) is the inner bright hall; the wider space beyond (road, square, water) is the outer bright hall. - Vietnamese: Minh đường - English: Bright hall - Chinese: 明堂 - Chinese characters: 明堂 - Also called: Minh đường · Ming Tang · Inner and outer bright hall #### Explanation A good bright hall is reasonably spacious, level and clean, with nothing sharp or bulky right in front of the door. Too narrow, and energy is stifled; too exposed and windswept, and it scatters. Inside, the living room just behind the main door acts as a small bright hall. #### How Home Check uses it When designing a new home, Home Check gives priority to a front yard — the home's inner bright hall. — [Feng shui check & fix](https://myhomecheck.ai/feng-shui) #### Related terms - [Sha (surrounding landforms)](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/sha-landforms): Sha are the mounds, hills or buildings around a site that shield it from wind and hold energy. - [Water method](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/water-method): Water methods read how water moves around a site — where it comes from, where it gathers and where it leaves — and compare it with the house's sitting and facing to judge good and bad. - [Main door as qi intake](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/main-door-qi-intake): The main door as qi intake is the idea that the main door is the mouth of the home (the qi mouth), where outside energy comes in. #### Questions ##### Where is the bright hall of a townhouse with no yard? The pavement and road in front are the outer bright hall; inside, the space right behind the main door plays the role of the inner bright hall. ##### Does a large tree in front of the door block the bright hall? A tree or column straight in front of the main door is usually considered a blockage; placing it off to one side is better. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/bright-hall ### Contours (等高线) > Contour lines join points of equal elevation on a terrain map. The closer the lines, the steeper the slope; the wider apart, the flatter the land. Water always runs at right angles to the contours, from high to low. - Vietnamese: Đường đồng mức - English: Contours - Chinese: 等高线 - Chinese characters: 等高线 - Also called: Contour lines · Đường đồng mức · Isolines of elevation #### Explanation In feng shui, contour lines reveal landform the eye misses: ridges where dragon veins run, valleys where water gathers, ground that embraces a site or falls away from it. They are the main tool for the middle scale — the terrain within a few kilometres of the home. #### How Home Check uses it Home Check draws contour lines automatically on the map around the site, with an interval suited to the terrain; you can also outline an area to draw it in detail. - [Dragon veins](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/dragon-veins): Dragon veins are lines that carry energy along ridges of higher ground — mountains, hills, mounds — like the veins of the earth. - [Dragon Entry](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/dragon-entry): Dragon Entry is the last stretch of a dragon vein — a line of higher ground that carries energy — before it enters a site or house. #### Questions ##### What is a contour interval? The height difference between two neighbouring contour lines, such as 1 m or 5 m; flatter land needs a smaller interval. ##### Do contour lines show where water flows? Yes. Water follows the steepest slope, at right angles to the contours, toward lower ground. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/contour-lines ### Direct wind (直冲风) > Direct wind is a strong current of air that blows straight at the main door or rushes right through a house. Feng shui holds that energy scatters in strong wind, so a direct wind makes it hard for a home to hold energy; gentle, meandering air is better. - Vietnamese: Gió thẳng - English: Direct wind - Chinese: 直冲风 - Chinese characters: 直冲风 - Also called: Gió thẳng · Rushing wind #### Explanation It often affects houses facing a long alley, the gap between two towers, or homes whose front and back doors line up. Architecturally, strong draughts also bring dust, noise and heat loss. The usual remedy is to turn the wind before it enters — a screen, a row of plants, a half wall, offset doors — not to seal the house. #### How Home Check uses it Home Check reads the real wind at the site — current and annual — and shows how the airflow reaches the main door. — [Compass & site reading](https://myhomecheck.ai/compass) #### Related terms - [Hide the wind, gather the qi](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/hide-wind-gather-qi): "Hide the wind, gather the qi" — shelter from wind and energy is kept — is the root principle of feng shui. - [Main door as qi intake](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/main-door-qi-intake): The main door as qi intake is the idea that the main door is the mouth of the home (the qi mouth), where outside energy comes in. - [Street water](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/street-water): Street water is the practice in urban water methods of treating streets and lanes as waterways, because flows of people and vehicles carry energy the way water does. #### Questions ##### Is a front door in line with a back door a direct wind? It is usually read that way, since air and energy pass straight through. A partition or cabinet placed between the two slows it down. ##### Is a home with no breeze better? No. Homes need ventilation; what feng shui avoids is strong wind running straight through, not air itself. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/direct-wind ### Hide the wind, gather the qi (藏风聚气) > "Hide the wind, gather the qi" — shelter from wind and energy is kept — is the root principle of feng shui. The Book of Burial says qi scatters in the wind and stops at water; the ancients gathered it so it would not scatter and guided it so it would come to rest, hence the name feng shui, wind and water. - Vietnamese: Tàng phong tụ khí - English: Hide the wind, gather the qi - Chinese: 藏风聚气 - Chinese characters: 藏风聚气 - Also called: Tàng phong tụ khí · Cang Feng Ju Qi #### Explanation This principle explains why feng shui prefers land with sha on both sides, support behind, an open bright hall in front and water that embraces it. For modern homes, "hiding the wind" does not mean sealing the house: it still needs ventilation, only the air should enter gently, change direction and not rush straight through. Classical source: The Book of Burial (Guo Pu, Jin dynasty) #### How Home Check uses it Home Check considers the real wind reaching the main door and how well the plan ventilates, to hold energy while keeping the home airy. — [Compass & site reading](https://myhomecheck.ai/compass) #### Related terms - [Direct wind](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/direct-wind): Direct wind is a strong current of air that blows straight at the main door or rushes right through a house. - [Water method](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/water-method): Water methods read how water moves around a site — where it comes from, where it gathers and where it leaves — and compare it with the house's sitting and facing to judge good and bad. - [Bright hall](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/bright-hall): The bright hall is the open space in front of a house where energy gathers before entering the main door. #### Questions ##### Where does the term "feng shui" come from? From the Book of Burial of the Jin dynasty, in the passage saying qi scatters in wind and stops at water; energy gathered and guided by wind and water — hence feng shui. ##### Does hiding the wind conflict with ventilation? No. Good ventilation lets air in at a moderate pace with a way out; hiding the wind only avoids strong straight wind that scatters energy. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/hide-wind-gather-qi ### Main door as qi intake (大门纳气) > The main door as qi intake is the idea that the main door is the mouth of the home (the qi mouth), where outside energy comes in. That is why its position, degree and the space in front of it are studied more closely than any other opening. - Vietnamese: Cửa chính nạp khí - English: Main door as qi intake - Chinese: 大门纳气 - Chinese characters: 大门纳气 - Also called: Cửa chính nạp khí · Qi mouth · Main entrance #### Explanation Energy from the bright hall enters through the main door and spreads to the rooms. A door in a good sector receiving a calm flow feeds the home well; a door struck by a road, hit by draughts or looking straight at a WC spoils the energy from the start. Windows and side doors also take in energy, but less. #### How Home Check uses it When checking feng shui, Home Check looks at the sector and mountain of the main door, the airflow reaching it and what the door looks straight at inside. — [Feng shui check & fix](https://myhomecheck.ai/feng-shui) #### Related terms - [Sitting and facing](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/sitting-and-facing): Sitting is the side a house leans its back against; facing is the side it looks out from. - [Door–kitchen–WC alignment](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/door-kitchen-wc-alignment): Alignment is when the main door, the stove and a WC door sit on one straight axis, looking straight at each other. - [Direct wind](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/direct-wind): Direct wind is a strong current of air that blows straight at the main door or rushes right through a house. - [Bright hall](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/bright-hall): The bright hall is the open space in front of a house where energy gathers before entering the main door. #### Questions ##### With several doors, which one is the main door? The one residents use every day and guests come through — usually on the façade. A garage door or a rarely used back door does not take its place. ##### Must the main door match the house's facing? Mostly it does. When the door is on a side wall, its own direction is read alongside the house's sitting and facing. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/main-door-qi-intake ### Door–kitchen–WC alignment (门灶厕对冲) > Alignment is when the main door, the stove and a WC door sit on one straight axis, looking straight at each other. Home feng shui usually avoids direct pairs such as the main door looking into the stove, or the stove facing a WC door. - Vietnamese: Đối trục cửa – bếp – nhà vệ sinh - English: Door–kitchen–WC alignment - Chinese: 门、灶、厕对冲 - Chinese characters: 门灶厕对冲 - Also called: Đối trục cửa – bếp – WC · Direct alignment #### Explanation The traditional reasoning: energy rushing from the main door strikes the stove; the stove (Fire, where food is cooked) facing the WC is seen as unclean. For hygiene and privacy, architects avoid these layouts too. Shifting off the axis, turning a door or adding a partition is often enough to break the line without demolition. #### How Home Check uses it Home Check checks alignment pairs on the plan after setting polarity, colours the exact spot and suggests moving or turning items to break the axis. — [Feng shui check & fix](https://myhomecheck.ai/feng-shui) #### Related terms - [Main door as qi intake](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/main-door-qi-intake): The main door as qi intake is the idea that the main door is the mouth of the home (the qi mouth), where outside energy comes in. - [Bed head](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/bed-head): The bed head is where the pillow lies and the sleeper's head rests. - [Altar sitting](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/altar-sitting): An altar's sitting is the side its back rests against, opposite the direction it faces. #### Questions ##### Does a diagonal view count as alignment? Usually not. Alignment means two positions on the same straight axis facing each other; a clear diagonal offset is much milder. ##### What if the stove cannot be moved? Add a half wall, change which way the WC door opens, or shift the stove slightly so the two no longer face each other directly. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/door-kitchen-wc-alignment ### Bed head (床头) > The bed head is where the pillow lies and the sleeper's head rests. In feng shui and home design, it should rest against a solid wall, not a window or a WC wall, stay off the line of the door, and point to a good sector of the home. - Vietnamese: Đầu giường - English: Bed head - Chinese: 床头 - Chinese characters: 床头 - Also called: Đầu giường · Bed head direction #### Explanation Sleep fills a third of our lives, so the bed head is one of the most carefully checked positions. Feng shui reads its sector from the house's orientation; architecture looks at the supporting wall, light, noise and movement in the room. Turning the bed is the gentlest feng shui fix there is — usually no building work at all. #### How Home Check uses it On the plan you drag a bed to a new spot; Home Check changes colour instantly to show whether the bed head is in a good sector or needs adjusting. — [Feng shui check & fix](https://myhomecheck.ai/feng-shui) #### Related terms - [Prosperous and weak sectors](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/prosperous-and-weak-sectors): Prosperous sectors are the parts of a home considered to have strong, favourable energy for its orientation; weak sectors have faint energy. - [Death point](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/death-point): The death point is the sector where, given the house's orientation, energy is considered most depleted. - [Door–kitchen–WC alignment](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/door-kitchen-wc-alignment): Alignment is when the main door, the stove and a WC door sit on one straight axis, looking straight at each other. #### Questions ##### Which way should the bed head point? There is no single right direction for every home; good sectors depend on that home's orientation. Set polarity, then see which sector the bed head falls in. ##### Is a bed head under a window a problem? Best avoided: there is no support behind, and draughts and light disturb sleep. If unavoidable, use heavy curtains and a tall headboard. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/bed-head ### Altar sitting (神台坐向) > An altar's sitting is the side its back rests against, opposite the direction it faces. An altar should sit against a solid, stable wall — not a WC, kitchen, window or passage — and is read together with the house's sitting and facing. - Vietnamese: Tọa bàn thờ - English: Altar sitting - Chinese: 神台坐向 - Chinese characters: 神台坐向 - Also called: Tọa bàn thờ · Altar orientation #### Explanation For Vietnamese families the altar is the most solemn place in the home, so its sitting is chosen with care: closed and clean behind, open in front, not looked into directly by the main door or a bedroom door. Beyond the wall behind, the floor above matters too — for example, avoiding a WC directly over the altar. #### How Home Check uses it When checking a plan, Home Check reviews the altar's sitting against the house's orientation, the wall behind it and what lies directly above and behind. - [Birth-year mountain](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/birth-year-mountain): A person's birth-year mountain is the compass mountain that shares the Earthly Branch of their birth year. #### Questions ##### Must the altar face the same way as the house? Not necessarily. Its sitting is judged on its own, by feng shui and by the wall it rests on; ask a master to look at the plan after setting polarity. ##### Where does the altar go in a townhouse? Often on the top floor, in its own room, against a solid wall, with no WC above and not facing the staircase. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/altar-sitting ### Light well (天井) > A light well is a vertical void open to the sky that brings light and air into the middle of a house. In narrow, deep tube houses it gives the central rooms daylight and drives a stack-effect breeze. - Vietnamese: Giếng trời - English: Light well - Chinese: 天井 - Chinese characters: 天井 - Also called: Giếng trời · Lightwell · Courtyard void #### Explanation Architecturally, it usually sits mid-house or by the stair, taking in light and letting heat rise out. In feng shui it is where heaven's energy enters the heart of the home, so it should stay clean and open, with suitable rain protection. Its size should suit the height of the house: too small gives too little light, too large in a narrow house wastes floor area. #### How Home Check uses it When you design a house in one sentence, Home Check places a light well where a deep plan needs daylight; you can also ask for one. — [House design](https://myhomecheck.ai/design) #### Related terms - [Center palace](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/center-palace): The center palace is the middle square of the nine palaces, around the centre of the house; in the Lo Shu it holds the number 5 and the Earth element. - [Hide the wind, gather the qi](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/hide-wind-gather-qi): "Hide the wind, gather the qi" — shelter from wind and energy is kept — is the root principle of feng shui. - [Building coverage ratio](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/building-coverage-ratio): Building coverage ratio is the percentage of a plot covered by the building's footprint. #### Questions ##### Which homes need a light well? Tube houses and deep homes whose middle rooms have no window to the outside. Homes open on several sides need one less. ##### Does a light well make the house hot? With proper shading and a vent at the top, it helps hot air rise and escape, keeping the home cooler. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/light-well ### Building coverage ratio (建筑密度) > Building coverage ratio is the percentage of a plot covered by the building's footprint. A 100 m² plot with an 80 m² footprint has 80% coverage; the maximum is set by building codes and the local zoning plan. - Vietnamese: Mật độ xây dựng - English: Building coverage ratio - Chinese: 建筑密度 - Chinese characters: 建筑密度 - Also called: Mật độ xây dựng · Site coverage #### Explanation The maximum usually falls as plots get larger: small urban plots may be built almost fully, while large plots must keep more open ground. Detailed zoning for an area may be stricter than the general code. Coverage is not the same as floor area ratio, which divides the total floor area of all storeys by the plot area. #### How Home Check uses it When designing, Home Check advises a sensible coverage and number of storeys under Vietnamese building codes, and the assistant can explain the regulations and name the document. — [House design](https://myhomecheck.ai/design) #### Related terms - [Setback](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/setback): The setback is the distance from the street boundary line (between road land and the plot) to the building line (which the house may not cross). - [Light well](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/light-well): A light well is a vertical void open to the sky that brings light and air into the middle of a house. #### Questions ##### Does a light well count toward coverage? An open light well is often excluded from the footprint, but the exact method follows local rules — check before applying for a permit. ##### What is the maximum coverage? It depends on plot size, building type and the zoning plan. Check the detailed plan and the current code where you build. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/building-coverage-ratio ### Setback (建筑退界) > The setback is the distance from the street boundary line (between road land and the plot) to the building line (which the house may not cross). It creates a front yard, keeps the street open and protects pedestrians. - Vietnamese: Khoảng lùi - English: Setback - Chinese: 建筑退界 - Chinese characters: 建筑退界 - Also called: Khoảng lùi · Building setback #### Explanation The required setback depends on the street's width, the building's height and the area's zoning. Many old streets allow building right up to the boundary, while new urban areas usually require a setback. In feng shui, the front setback is the home's inner bright hall. #### How Home Check uses it When designing, Home Check applies the required front setback and gives priority to a front yard; the assistant can explain which rule applies. — [House design](https://myhomecheck.ai/design) #### Related terms - [Building coverage ratio](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/building-coverage-ratio): Building coverage ratio is the percentage of a plot covered by the building's footprint. - [Bright hall](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/glossary/bright-hall): The bright hall is the open space in front of a house where energy gathers before entering the main door. #### Questions ##### Can a balcony project beyond the setback? Some projections such as balconies and canopies may cross the building line within limits set by height and street width; check the rules where you build. ##### Does the setback matter for feng shui? Yes. The front yard it creates is the inner bright hall, where energy gathers before the main door. Yes, but that is not precise enough. The Northwest spans 45° (292.5° – 337.5°) and holds three mountains, Xu, Qian, Hai; a house facing 300° is in Xu. Naming the mountain tells apart houses only a few degrees from each other. ##### What does a house facing Xu sit on? It sits Chen 辰, 112.5° – 127.5°. Sitting and facing are always exactly 180° apart. ##### Whose birth-year mountain is Xu? It belongs to people born in a Xu (Dog) year, counted from the Start of Spring rather than Lunar New Year. When the main door or an active, heavy item falls exactly in Xu, say precisely whose Xu birth-year mountain it touches. Qian covers every bearing from 307.5° up to 322.5°, within the Qian 乾 trigram in the Northwest, element Metal. A house facing Qian sits Xun 巽 (127.5° – 142.5°) — described as sitting Xun, facing Qian. To be sure, measure the facing as an exact degree. #### Facts about the Qian mountain - Name: Càn · Qian · 乾 - Degree range: 307.5° – 322.5° - Center: 315° - Trigram: Qian 乾 (292.5° – 337.5°) - Lines (bottom to top): yang, yang, yang - Direction: Northwest - Element of the mountain: Metal - Element of the trigram: Metal - Three Yuan dragon: Heaven Yuan dragon - Opposite mountain (sitting): Xun 巽 · 127.5° – 142.5° - Neighbouring mountains: Xu 戌 · Hai 亥 - Birth-year mountain: Not a birth-year mountain — only the 12 Earthly Branch mountains match a birth year. #### When measuring and setting polarity The closer a facing is to the 307.5° or 322.5° boundary, the more easily a measuring error pushes it into Xu 戌 or Hai 亥. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/nham ## Which mountain is my house's facing in? > A house's facing is the degree its front looks toward, counted clockwise from North. The compass divides 360° into 24 mountains of 15° each: Zi at due North (352.5°–7.5°), then Gui, Chou, Gen… For example, a house facing 135° is in Xun and sits at 315°, in Qian. Enter a degree on the compass below to read it at once. ### Eight directions and 24 Mountains Each direction spans 45° and holds three mountains. A direction names a region; a mountain names the facing. | Direction | Degree range | Three mountains | |---|---|---| | North · Kan 坎 | 337.5° – 22.5° | [Zi](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/ty) 352.5° – 7.5°; [Gui](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/quy) 7.5° – 22.5°; [Ren](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/nham) 337.5° – 352.5° | | Northeast · Gen 艮 | 22.5° – 67.5° | [Chou](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/suu) 22.5° – 37.5°; [Gen](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/can-son) 37.5° – 52.5°; [Yin](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/dan) 52.5° – 67.5° | | East · Zhen 震 | 67.5° – 112.5° | [Jia](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/giap) 67.5° – 82.5°; [Mao](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/mao) 82.5° – 97.5°; [Yi](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/at) 97.5° – 112.5° | | Southeast · Xun 巽 | 112.5° – 157.5° | [Chen](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/thin) 112.5° – 127.5°; [Xun](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/ton) 127.5° – 142.5°; [Si](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/ti) 142.5° – 157.5° | | South · Li 离 | 157.5° – 202.5° | [Bing](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/binh) 157.5° – 172.5°; [Wu](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/ngo) 172.5° – 187.5°; [Ding](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/dinh) 187.5° – 202.5° | | Southwest · Kun 坤 | 202.5° – 247.5° | [Wei](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/mui) 202.5° – 217.5°; [Kun](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/khon) 217.5° – 232.5°; [Shen](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/than) 232.5° – 247.5° | | West · Dui 兑 | 247.5° – 292.5° | [Geng](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/canh) 247.5° – 262.5°; [You](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/dau) 262.5° – 277.5°; [Xin](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/tan) 277.5° – 292.5° | | Northwest · Qian 乾 | 292.5° – 337.5° | [Xu](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/tuat) 292.5° – 307.5°; [Qian](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/can-tay-bac) 307.5° – 322.5°; [Hai](https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/24-mountains/hoi) 322.5° – 337.5° | ### Measure the facing correctly 1. Stand on the threshold of the main door, back to the house, looking out. 2. Hold the phone flat with its top edge pointing straight ahead; keep clear of iron gates, vehicles and electrical boxes. 3. Record the exact degree and measure again at two or three points. ### FAQ #### Why record a degree instead of a direction name? Because a direction such as “Southeast” spans 45° and covers three mountains. A degree tells you exactly which mountain, and one number names both the facing and the sitting. #### Is a house facing 7.5° in Zi or in Gui? In Gui. Each boundary belongs to the next mountain clockwise: Zi runs from 352.5° up to 7.5°, Gui from 7.5° up to 22.5°. Facings close to a boundary should be measured several times. #### Does the compass on this page replace a real measurement? No. This page reads a degree you already have. To measure, use the compass in the app, stand clear of metal and measure again at several points. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/learn/direction ## Guides ### How to measure your home's direction with a phone > Stand on the main door's threshold with your back to the house, facing out. Hold the phone flat, top edge pointing straight ahead, away from metal gates, vehicles and electrical boxes. Wait for the reading to settle, record the exact degree and repeat at two or three spots. That number is your facing — not a compass name. **Goal:** A reliable degree for your home's facing, ready for setting polarity and checking feng shui. A few degrees can move you into another mountain, so how you measure matters as much as what you measure with. #### What you need - A phone with a compass and location turned on (so magnetic declination can be corrected for where you stand). - Remove any magnetic case or metal phone grip. - Know which door is the main door — the one residents use and guests come through every day. #### Steps 1. **Calibrate the compass.** If the phone asks, move it in a figure-eight a few times until the compass reports it is ready. 2. **Stand in the right place.** Stand on the threshold of the main door, back to the house, looking straight out. Keep at least 1–2 m from metal gates, motorbikes, cars, steel columns and electrical boxes. 3. **Hold the phone correctly.** Keep it flat at chest height, top edge pointing straight ahead, at right angles to the façade. 4. **Read and record the degree.** Wait a few seconds for the number to settle, then record the exact degree, for example 135.4°. Do not round it to “southeast”. 5. **Measure at two or three spots.** Measure again in the yard or on the pavement a few steps out, looking the same way. Readings that differ by more than a few degrees suggest magnetic interference — move away from metal and measure again. 6. **Check against a map.** Compare the façade's direction with the street in front of your home on a satellite map. When the two agree, the reading can be trusted. #### Common mistakes - Measuring right next to a metal gate, aluminium door frame, motorbike or car — the needle can be off by tens of degrees. - Tilting the phone or holding it upright while reading the compass. - Looking into the house while measuring, recording a value 180° off (the sitting instead of the facing). - Writing only a name like “southeast” — one name covers three mountains. - In apartments, measuring in a steel-heavy corridor without checking a map. #### Do it in Home Check 1. Tap “Measure” to open the Measure (compass) screen. 2. Hold the phone as described; Home Check shows the degree, mountain, trigram and sitting, already corrected for magnetic declination at your location. 3. To look straight ahead through the camera, tap “AR Compass”. 4. Save the reading as a project to use when setting polarity on the plan. #### Questions ##### Can I measure indoors? Measure on the threshold or outside. Indoors, reinforced concrete, appliances and metal frames deflect the needle; if you must measure inside, also check against a map. ##### What is magnetic declination — do I add or subtract it myself? It is the angle between geographic north and magnetic north, and it varies by place. Home Check corrects it automatically for your location. ##### How do I measure an apartment? An apartment's facing is usually taken from its own main door. Since corridors contain a lot of steel, measure several times and check against the building's footprint on a map. To get it right you need a plan with the true shape and size, a centre taken from the house rather than the plot, the facing degree (not the sitting) and a check of which mountain the main door falls in. **Goal:** Lay the 24 mountains and the bagua over the plan exactly as they lie in reality, so that every later feng shui finding — which room is in which sector — is in the right place. #### What you need - A floor plan with the correct outer walls, shape and dimensions, showing the main door. - The home's measured facing degree, e.g. 135.4° (see How to measure your home's direction with a phone). - For multi-storey homes: the ground-floor plan. #### Steps 1. **Check the plan.** Make sure the outline of the house has the right size and true shape, including missing corners and projections. 2. **Find the centre of the house.** For a rectangle, the centre is where the diagonals cross. For L-shaped or many-sided homes, it must be computed from the actual shape. Use the centre of the house, not of the plot. 3. **Set the facing.** Enter the facing degree — the direction the main door looks out to. The facing bar on the plan must point to the main door. 4. **Check the main door.** See which mountain the main door falls in and compare with your field reading. If the main door ends up on the sitting side, you may have entered a value 180° off. 5. **Use one facing for the whole house.** Upper floors belong to the same house and use the ground-floor facing. 6. **Run the feng shui check.** After setting polarity, run the feng shui check. After major changes to the plan, check again. #### Common mistakes - Taking the centre of the plot instead of the house. - Entering the sitting degree instead of the facing — every sector is reversed. - A plan at the wrong scale or missing a cut-out corner, shifting the centre. - A different facing on each floor of the same house. - Editing the plan without re-running the feng shui check. #### Do it in Home Check 1. Tap “Projects”, then tap a project in the list to open its plan. 2. Tap “Set polarity”. If you measured on the compass screen, Home Check uses the reading you confirmed. 3. Home Check finds the centre from the shape of the plan and lays the 24 mountains and bagua over the drawing. 4. When a new reading differs from the saved one, the assistant asks which to use. When the plan changes, the app reminds you to re-check the feng shui. #### Questions ##### Does the centre include balconies and yards? Usually the centre is taken from the part of the house inside its outer walls; balconies and open yards are generally excluded. Schools differ, so agree on this with your feng shui master. ##### Does an error of 2–3 degrees matter? In the middle of a mountain it matters little; near the boundary between two mountains, a few degrees can change the mountain. Measure carefully when the degree is close to an x.5° boundary. A few floor-plan options to discuss are even better. **Goal:** Turn your initial meeting with an architect into a decision-making session rather than a fact-finding one. #### What you need - A copy of the land-use certificate and the plot's zoning information if available. - A tape measure or laser meter, and a phone with a compass. - One conversation with the whole family about needs. #### Steps 1. **Gather the land papers.** A copy of the certificate, the plot diagram and zoning details: street boundary line, building line, permitted coverage and number of storeys. 2. **Measure the plot and the facing.** Re-measure the four sides on site and record the façade's facing as a degree. Real dimensions sometimes differ from the papers. 3. **List your needs.** How many people, who needs a ground-floor room, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, an altar room, parking, a ground-floor shop or not, future plans (children, grandparents). 4. **Photograph the site.** The front, both sides, the back, the street and the house opposite. Photos show the architect sun, wind, views and obstacles. 5. **Pick a style.** Save five to ten photos of homes you like and note in one sentence why. 6. **Note birth years for feng shui.** Birth years (with day and month if born near February) of the head of household and members, for birth-year mountains. 7. **Prepare your questions.** Coverage, setback, maximum storeys; permit procedure; schedule; what the architect will deliver. #### Common mistakes - Bringing only the dimensions on paper without measuring on site. - Describing the facing by name instead of degree. - Not agreeing on needs within the family, so the meeting becomes a debate. - Not asking about zoning early, then redesigning at permit stage. #### Do it in Home Check 1. Tap “Design” and describe the home in one sentence, for example “5×20 house, 3 bedrooms, an altar room”. 2. Home Check returns three scored floor-plan options; pick one as the basis for discussion. 3. Measure the facing on the Measure screen, set polarity and check the feng shui of the chosen option. 4. Export the plan as a PDF to bring to the meeting. #### Questions ##### Can a Home Check option replace a design package? No. It is a layout for reference and discussion. For permits and construction you need a design package from a licensed architect. ##### Do I need to know feng shui before meeting an architect? Not necessarily, but if your family cares about it, say so from the start with the facing degree and birth years, so feng shui shapes the layout instead of being fixed later. Scan the level of all nine, read the serious sections and section 9 first, then act on Urgent items before Important and Improve. **Goal:** Understand quickly where the home is strong or weak, who in the family is affected and what to do first — instead of reading one long text from start to finish. #### What you need - A plan with polarity set to the measured facing degree (see What setting polarity is and how to do it right). - Birth years of the family — male head, female head, children — so the analysis can name each person's role. - A completed feng shui check; if you have just changed the plan, check again before analysing. #### Steps 1. **Open the analysis.** Tap “Feng Shui” on the home screen, or on the plan tell the assistant “Feng shui analysis”. The analysis opens in nine sections, with a 1–9 bar at the top to jump between them. 2. **Scan the level of all nine sections.** Each section carries one level: Alarm, Very negative, Clearly negative, Slightly negative, Normal, Positive, or Not enough data. The coloured dots on the number bar show which sections to read first. 3. **Read the serious sections first.** Open the sections with serious levels. Each point has a “Why” that names the exact place on the plan — which room, which item, which sector — and the affected person by role: male head, female head, eldest son… 4. **Check each member and the timing.** Section 7 shows how each person in the home is affected, by their role in the family. Section 8 lists the years and months to watch. 5. **Go to section 9 — remedies.** Actions are sorted into three tiers: Urgent (do now), Important (handle soon) and Improve. Work in that order; every action comes with its reason. 6. **Add data when asked.** Where a section says “More data needed” — for example the ground level on either side of the house — add it and run the analysis again for a firmer conclusion. 7. **Listen, give feedback and share.** Tap the speaker icon to hear it read aloud; at the end of each section tap “Accurate” or “Not quite” to give feedback; tap the share button to export a PDF report. #### Common mistakes - Reading from section 1 to 9 like a story and missing a serious section near the end. - Setting polarity wrongly — entering the sitting degree instead of the facing — and still trusting the analysis. - Leaving out birth years, so the members section cannot name the right person. - Changing the plan but still reading the analysis of the old plan. - Doing Improve items before dealing with Urgent ones. #### Do it in Home Check 1. Tap “Feng Shui”, or tell the assistant on the plan “Feng shui analysis”. 2. Home Check writes an analysis for your own home from the polarity-set plan and the feng shui check; homes and businesses each have their own nine sections. 3. Have the assistant read each section aloud, and ask follow-up questions in the chat or by voice in Live. 4. Export a PDF with a cover, the polarity-set plan and a QR code; PRO accounts can put their own brand on the report. 5. When the plan changes, check and analyse again so the conclusions follow the new plan. #### Questions ##### What is the analysis based on? On the polarity-set plan itself: where each room and item sits, the main door, the wind reaching the door, and birth years to find each person's birth-year mountain. The closer the plan is to reality, the closer the analysis. ##### Does “Alarm” mean the house is very bad? It is the priority of one topic, not a verdict on the whole home. Most issues can be fixed by moving furniture, turning the bed or swapping room uses; section 9 tells you what to do first. ##### Is there a separate analysis for businesses? Yes. Businesses have their own nine sections: brand and opportunities, leadership, finance, people, operations, products and receivables, staff health, timing and a remedy plan. ##### What if a section does not match my home? Tap “Not quite” at the end of the section and say what is off if you like. Also recheck the facing degree, the main door's position and the birth years — an error in any of these shifts the conclusions. ##### How do I export the analysis as a PDF? Tap the share button at the top of the analysis to create a PDF with a cover, the polarity-set plan and every section; then save it to Files, print it or send it. Find it at three scales: the grand scale from the region's real rivers and canals, the middle scale from terrain a few kilometres around, the small scale from road slope and drains by the house. Real water always comes first. **Goal:** Know which degree and mountain the site's water mouth falls in, and how sure that is — so the water method and every water reading start from the right point. #### What you need - The exact location of the site (pinned on the map) and the centre of the house. - The measured facing degree, to compare the water mouth with the sitting and facing. - Local knowledge: where the nearby river, canal or ditch flows, and which way the road in front slopes when it rains. #### Steps 1. **Choose the centre.** Use the centre of the house when reading a home, or the centre of the plot when reading land. Every water-mouth degree is read from this centre. 2. **Find the region's real water — grand scale.** Find the main river, canal, stream or lake near the site that the site's water drains into, and follow it downstream. The grand-scale water mouth is where that main flow leaves the area under study. This scale is the root. 3. **Read the terrain around the site — middle scale.** Within a few hundred metres to a few kilometres, look at the contour lines: surface water gathers along natural low channels and leaves on one side. If there is real water within that range, real water comes first. 4. **Look at the street water by the house — small scale.** Within a few tens of metres of the house, streets and drains are treated as watercourses. When it rains, the way water runs on the road is the way water leaves; where it leaves the front of the house is the small-scale water mouth. 5. **Read the degree and the mountain.** From the centre, read the degree to the water mouth and convert it to a mountain on the 24-mountain ring — for example, 208° falls in Wei. 6. **Judge the confidence.** Real water with a clear flow direction is reliable; gentle terrain or an almost flat road should be confirmed on site. Canals with sluices or pumps, and tidal areas, can reverse the flow. 7. **Check on site, then fix one point.** Go to the site and watch where water goes when it rains, and compare. Once sure, set one point as the main water mouth for the water method. #### Common mistakes - Taking the largest river in the region instead of the main river near the site that its water actually drains into. - Placing the water mouth where water arrives (upstream) instead of where it leaves. - Ignoring real water and looking only at the road in front. - Reading the degree from the gate or the edge of the plot instead of the centre of the house. - Relying fully on street water when the road is almost flat, without watching the water when it rains. #### Do it in Home Check 1. Open the Measure screen, pin the site on the satellite image, then tap the round Water Method button. 2. In Auto mode, Home Check finds the water mouth at the grand, middle and small scales and marks each on the map, with its degree, mountain, confidence and a short reason. 3. The grand-scale point is the main one for the water method; middle- and small-scale points are notes — if one looks more correct, tap “Use as main water mouth”. 4. Choose Manual to pin or drag the water mouth yourself; the system keeps your point. On very flat terrain the app asks you to choose the right point. 5. Turn on contour lines to see the high and low ground around the site yourself. #### Questions ##### How is the water mouth different from incoming water? Incoming water is the side water flows towards the site from; the water mouth is the side it leaves by. On the same stream, upstream is the incoming water and downstream is the water mouth. Many water methods use the water mouth as their starting point. ##### What makes a good water mouth? Classical texts prefer a water mouth that is closed and winding: water leaves slowly and out of sight, with mounds, trees or buildings guarding the exit so qi does not drain away. Where water arrives should be open, where it leaves should be closed — “the heavenly gate open, the earthly door shut”. ##### What if there is no river near a townhouse? With no river or canal in range, the water mouth is found from the terrain — the natural drainage line where surface water gathers. In town, the streets and drains next to the house are street water, used at the small scale. ##### Why do the three scales give three different points? Each scale looks at a different range: the grand scale follows the region's main water, the middle scale the lie of the land around the site, the small scale the road in front. Three different points are normal; the grand scale is the root and the smaller ones add detail. ##### Can I pin the water mouth myself? Yes. Choose Manual, then pin or drag the point on the map; the system will not replace the point you set. Only issues at the main door or a fixed bathroom or kitchen block call for a re-layout. **Goal:** Deal with feng shui issues at low cost, with little disruption and in the right order — before anyone thinks about knocking down walls or rebuilding. #### What you need - An as-built plan that matches reality, with polarity set to the facing degree. - The feng shui check result: the list of issues and where each one is on the plan. - The family's birth years, to know whose birth-year mountain each issue affects. - A list of what cannot move: columns, beams, drain pipes, septic tank. #### Steps 1. **Sort the issues.** Split issues into three groups: furniture (bed, stove, altar, desk), room use (bedroom, kitchen or bathroom in a weaker sector) and structure (main door, fixed bathroom or kitchen block). Fix them in that order, from light to heavy. 2. **Move and turn furniture.** Put the bed head against a solid wall in a favourable sector, turn the stove to a solid wall, and move the desk so you sit with solid backing. These are light fixes, usually done in an afternoon. 3. **Swap room uses.** Two rooms of similar size can swap: the bedroom moves to a favourable sector, storage or a spare room to a weaker one. Making a bathroom more compact can also give the centre of the house back. 4. **Break the alignment.** If the main door, stove and bathroom door sit on one straight axis, separate them with a half-height partition, shelving or a screen, or shift a door off the axis. Doors that only see each other at an angle are usually fine. 5. **Reposition the altar.** The altar needs a solid, steady wall behind it — not a bathroom, kitchen, window or walkway — and is read together with the house's sitting and facing. Moving it to another wall of the same room is often enough. 6. **Decide: keep the layout or re-arrange.** If serious issues remain at the main door or a fixed bathroom or kitchen block, weigh it up: keep the layout and accept small remaining issues, or re-arrange the interior within the same building outline. Compare the building cost with the issues it resolves. 7. **Check again after every fix.** After every move or swap, run the feng shui check on the plan again to be sure the issue is gone and no new one has appeared. #### Common mistakes - Knocking out the main door or a wall when moving furniture would solve it. - Moving the toilet, basin or shower into a corridor or walkway to get the “right sector” — moving a bathroom means moving the whole room, with walls, door and drainage. - Turning the bed head to a good sector but under a window or against a bathroom wall. - Fixing one issue without checking again and creating another — for example a new stove position facing the bathroom door. - Re-arranging the whole house when just one or two light issues remain. #### Do it in Home Check 1. On a plan that has been checked, tap “Assistant” and say “Fix the feng shui faults”, or tap the Fix button under the issue card. 2. The assistant always asks how to fix first. Keep the layout: stairs, outer walls and main door stay; you pick what to fix — kitchen, bathroom, main door or all — and the assistant moves, turns and re-assigns until the issues are gone, explaining any that remain. 3. Thorough fix: the outline, number of floors, rooms and facing stay; the interior is re-arranged into up to 3 options with before-and-after scores, and your current plan is untouched until you pick one. 4. Moving a bathroom means moving the whole room; if there is no valid place, the assistant does not move it and suggests another way. Every change can be undone. #### Questions ##### Which issues can be fixed by moving furniture? Bed head, stove direction, altar and desk positions, and bathroom fittings within the bathroom itself — most can be fixed by moving or turning things without touching the walls. ##### When should I re-arrange the layout? When serious issues sit in fixed blocks: a bathroom or kitchen in the centre palace, or a main door with an issue that cannot be moved. Then re-arranging the interior within the same outline usually beats patching spot by spot. ##### Will the fixes spoil how the house works? Every suggestion from the assistant must pass both feng shui and architectural standards: no bathroom fittings in walkways, no blocked doors, enough room to move around. Every change can be undone. ##### How do I break a door – kitchen – bathroom alignment? Shifting a door off the axis, or adding a half-height partition, shelving or a screen between the two doors, are common ways. After the change, check again on the plan to be sure the axis is broken. ##### How are tokens charged for fixing feng shui in the app? Pay for what you use: check, analysis, fix — each uses tokens for that task only, and only after you have the result. Put the stairs and a light well mid-house, group bathrooms into a compact block, use a corridor along one side and keep windows or vents in the rear third. Under TCVN 9411:2012, houses deeper than 18 m need a light well, open court or skylight. **Goal:** A tube-house plan that is bright, airy, easy to move through and code-compliant — while avoiding feng shui issues common in deep, narrow homes, such as a stove or bathroom aligned with the main door. #### What you need - The real size of the plot and of the building you want (width × depth), and the number of floors. - The building line, setbacks and permitted building coverage for the plot. - The number of bedrooms and bathrooms, and whether you need an altar room, parking or a ground-floor shop. - The facing degree, if you want feng shui considered while laying out. #### Steps 1. **Understand the tube-house problem.** The house is deep and narrow, and both side walls usually sit on the boundary — doors, windows and vents are not allowed when a wall is less than 2 m from the boundary (TCVN 9411:2012, clause 6.4.3.1). Light and air come only from the front, the back and the roof. 2. **Put the stairs and light well in the middle.** Place the stairs with a light well around the middle of the house, against one side wall. The well brings light down and draws warm air up; the stairs split the house into a front and a rear block. Terraced houses deeper than 18 m need ventilation and daylight solutions such as an open court, light well or skylight (TCVN 9411:2012, clause 5.1.2). 3. **Run the corridor along one side.** When the building is about 7 m wide or less, use a corridor along one side with rooms in a single strip. A central corridor leaves two strips of rooms that are too narrow. 4. **Group bathrooms and kitchen compactly.** Group bathrooms next to the stairs or the light well so they share pipework and get a vent. Put the kitchen in the rear block, not on a straight axis with the main door or a bathroom door. 5. **Ventilate the rear of the house.** The rear third needs airflow through windows, vents or a light well — it does not have to become a back yard. Window area for daylight should be 1/8 – 1/5 of the floor area (TCVN 4451:2012, clause 7.3.3). 6. **Check the stairs against the code.** In a detached house, a flight is at least 700 mm wide, treads at least 250 mm, risers preferably ≤ 190 mm, with at least 2000 mm of headroom (TCVN 13967:2024, clause 5.11). Escape stairs in a terraced house are at least 900 mm wide (TCVN 9411:2012, clause 6.3.5.1). 7. **Consider feng shui on the plan.** Set polarity to the facing degree, check the kitchen, bathrooms, bed heads and altar, and adjust on the plan before you finalise the design. #### Common mistakes - Opening a window in a wall right on the boundary. - Using a central corridor in a 4–5 m house, leaving rooms on both sides too narrow. - Dropping the light well for bigger rooms, leaving the middle of the house dark and stuffy. - Putting a bathroom right at the front or on an axis with the main door. - Sealing the back of the house so all openings are at the front — air cannot move through. #### Do it in Home Check 1. Tap “Design” and describe the house in one sentence, for example “5×20 house, 3 floors, 4 bedrooms, an altar room”. 2. Home Check returns three scored options with stairs, light wells and bathrooms placed to code; narrow houses get a one-side corridor. 3. For small houses, Home Check flexibly scales down rooms, the dining table and living room to fit instead of refusing; if it still cannot fit, it tells you which arrangements are possible. 4. Tap “Compare” to see the options side by side, then set polarity, check feng shui, view in 3D and study the sun on the chosen option. #### Questions ##### Can a 4 m tube house have a light well? Yes. A small light well next to the stairs is enough to bring light and air into the middle of the house; it can be combined with the stair gap and a glass roof. ##### Should the stairs go in the middle or at the back? In a tube house, stairs around the middle with a light well split the house into front and rear blocks and help ventilation. Stairs at the back need a separate daylight solution for the middle. ##### Does a tube house need a back yard? Not necessarily. The rear third needs airflow through windows, vents or a light well; add a back yard only if the family wants one. ##### What feng shui issues are common in tube houses? Common ones: a stove or bathroom aligned with the main door, a bathroom in the centre palace, a bed head against a bathroom wall. Set polarity and run the feng shui check while laying out, so you can adjust early. ##### Which codes apply to tube houses? Mainly QCVN 01:2021/BXD on planning (coverage, setbacks, height), TCVN 9411:2012 on terraced housing, TCVN 13967:2024 on detached houses and TCVN 4451:2012 on housing design principles. The Home Check Assistant reads walls, rooms and doors, rebuilds the plan exactly as drawn and asks about the main door. Confirm, tap Build plan, check a few dimensions, then set polarity. **Goal:** Turn an old plan into an editable digital plan that keeps your layout as it is, ready for setting polarity and checking feng shui without redrawing from scratch. #### What you need - A floor plan for each floor: paper, printout, scan or screenshot all work. - A flat, well-lit table, with no lamp shining straight onto the paper. - The overall size of the house (width × depth) to cross-check if the plan has no dimensions. - Knowing which edge of the plan the main door is on. #### Steps 1. **Flatten the plan.** Lay the sheet flat, weigh down the four corners and smooth out folds. A curled edge makes the walls in the photo curve too. 2. **Shoot straight on, one photo per floor.** Hold the phone parallel to the paper, looking straight down, with all four corners in frame and the dimensions readable. Take a separate photo for each floor. 3. **Open Rebuild from a plan photo.** On the home screen, tap “Digitize”, then “Rebuild from a plan photo”. Choose “Assistant builds”, then pick photos from your library or take new ones — up to 6 at a time. 4. **Confirm what the assistant read.** The assistant shows the outline, the number of rooms and doors, a confidence label, and asks which side the main door is on. If right, tap “Correct”; if the main door is the wrong way, tap “Rotate”; if something is off, tap “Not right” to say what. 5. **Build the plan.** Tap “Build plan”: the editor opens the 2D plan with the main door turned to the top and the original photo underneath as a backdrop. For more floors, add them right on the result card. 6. **Check and adjust dimensions.** Turn on “Photo” and drag the opacity to compare every wall line. Measure a few main sides on site; wherever it is off, adjust in the editor as with any plan. 7. **Set polarity and check feng shui.** Enter the facing degree, set polarity, then run the feng shui check on the plan you just built. #### Common mistakes - Shooting at an angle, so the photo becomes a trapezoid and the walls are no longer square. - Glare or a hand's shadow hiding wall lines and dimensions. - Putting several floors in one photo. - Using an illustration from the internet that is not to scale without checking the real dimensions. - Skipping the main-door confirmation — the plan is rotated wrongly and polarity follows. #### Do it in Home Check 1. Tap “Digitize”, then “Rebuild from a plan photo”. 2. Choose “Assistant builds” to have the assistant read the photo and build the plan, or “Draw it yourself” to set the scale and trace over the photo. 3. The assistant builds exactly what the photo shows, without redesigning the layout; the original photo is kept with the project as a backdrop, and is not printed in the PDF or shown in 3D. 4. You then have a full digital plan: edit walls, place furniture, view in 3D, set polarity, check feng shui and export a PDF. #### Questions ##### Do hand-drawn plans or faint scans work? Yes, as long as the wall lines and dimensions are readable. If the photo is too faint, the assistant will miss things; reshoot it more clearly or choose Draw it yourself to trace over it. ##### Will the assistant change my layout? No. It builds exactly what the photo shows; the plan is only turned so the main door is at the top, so polarity is set correctly. To change the layout, edit it yourself or ask the assistant once the plan is built. ##### What if the plan has no dimensions? Measure the overall size of the house on site and adjust it in the editor. Many illustrative plans are not to scale, so do not infer measurements from the drawing. ##### How do I handle a multi-storey house? One photo per floor, up to 6 at a time; add floors right on the result card. All floors belong to the same house and should share one facing when setting polarity. Turn the lights on, open every room, then walk slowly through the whole home once, sweeping along each wall. When done, rotate the 3D model to check it, then tap 2D to go straight to the floor plan. Without LiDAR, use a plan photo or a laser meter. **Goal:** Get an as-built plan in the true shape of the home — angled walls included — without a tape measure or paper plan, ready to edit, view in 3D and check for feng shui. #### What you need - iPhone Pro / Pro Max from the 12 Pro onwards, or an iPad Pro with a LiDAR sensor; fully charged. - A well-lit home: lights on, curtains open; every room door open so you can walk through in one pass. - Clear walkways; move things away from the foot of the walls where you can. - Know the main door and the facing degree (measured on the Measure screen) for setting polarity after the scan. #### Steps 1. **Open LiDAR scan.** On the home screen, tap “Digitize”, then “LiDAR scan”. A device without a LiDAR sensor is told right away and offered another way to digitize. 2. **Start at the main door.** Stand inside next to the main door, hold the phone upright at chest height with the camera facing the wall. Wait until the scan picks up the floor and the wall in front of you. 3. **Walk slowly, sweep along the walls.** Walk slowly, sweeping along the base and top of each wall and across every door and window frame. A glowing outline following the wall edge shows the device has captured it. 4. **Scan the whole home in one pass.** Move through the rooms in one loop, without locking the screen or covering the camera. At each doorway, scan the frame before stepping through. 5. **Finish and view in 3D.** When you have covered the home, tap to finish. The 3D model appears so you can rotate it and check that every room and door is there. 6. **Tap 2D for the floor plan.** Tap 2D to go straight to the floor plan in the editor; angled walls stay angled, and doors and windows sit on their walls. 7. **Save, set polarity and check.** When you are happy, save it to a project — tokens are used only at that point. Enter the facing degree, set polarity and check feng shui. #### Common mistakes - Walking fast or swinging the phone — the device loses track and you must scan again. - Poor light, or a finger over the camera. - Standing in the middle of a room and panning instead of walking along the walls — not enough walls are captured to build the plan. - Pointing for long at mirrors, large glass or glossy surfaces — they are easily mistaken for walls. - Trying to scan a very large home in one pass beyond the device's limit — scan one floor at a time instead. #### Do it in Home Check 1. Tap “Digitize”, then “LiDAR scan”. 2. Home Check builds a 3D model from the scan for you to rotate; tap 2D to open the floor plan straight in the editor, with angled walls kept. 3. If a scan fails, the app says why — moving too fast, poor light, not enough walls, area too large — and lets you scan again; if you cancel midway, nothing is saved. 4. Scanning uses no tokens; tokens are used only when you save the plan to a project — pay for what you use. #### Questions ##### Which devices can scan with LiDAR? iPhone Pro and Pro Max from the 12 Pro onwards, and iPad Pro models with a LiDAR sensor. Other devices can still digitize from a plan photo or with a Bluetooth laser meter. ##### Room by room, or the whole home? The whole home in one pass: walk through the rooms continuously and the plan comes out in one go, with no stitching. If the area exceeds the device's limit, the app tells you so you can scan one floor at a time. ##### What about angled walls and corners that are not square? The plan keeps the true shape: angled walls stay angled, and doors and windows sit right on the walls — so the house centre and polarity follow the real shape. ##### Does a LiDAR scan use tokens? Scanning uses no tokens. Tokens are used only when you save the plan to a project, as with any plan. ##### What if a scan fails? The app tells you why — moving too fast, poor light, not enough walls or an area too large. Tap “Scan again”, walk more slowly, keep it well lit and scan in one continuous pass. For each wall you draw, put the meter against its corner and press measure: the length goes straight into the plan, with no typing. Measure the full loop of outer walls first, then partitions, doors and columns. **Goal:** A floor plan that matches every real measurement of the home you live in, ready to edit, view in 3D, set polarity and check feng shui — without writing down and retyping every number. #### What you need - A Bluetooth laser distance meter on Home Check's list of supported devices (see Activate device in the app). - Bluetooth and Location (GPS) turned on — the app needs location permission to find a meter nearby. - A rough sketch of the rooms to plan the order; a tape measure for spots the laser cannot reach. - Every room door open, and items moved away from the foot of the walls so the beam hits the wall itself. #### Steps 1. **Activate the meter.** Open the menu, choose “Activate device”, bring the meter close to the phone and tap “Scan Devices”. Pick the meter that appears and tap “Activate” — once per meter. 2. **Open the laser editor.** On the home screen, tap “Digitize”, then “Bluetooth laser meter”. In the editor, tap the Bluetooth button and choose the activated meter. 3. **Measure the outer walls first.** Start at the corner by the main door and go round the house in one direction. Put the base of the meter against the corner, aim the beam square to the opposite corner and press measure: the length goes into the wall you are drawing. Carry on until the loop is closed. 4. **Add the partitions.** Measure each partition the same way. For the selected wall, choose what to capture before you press measure: length, thickness or height. 5. **Place doors, windows and columns.** Select a door or window, measure from the wall corner to the edge of the opening, then the width, height and height above the floor; for columns, measure two sides. Each reading goes into the property you selected. 6. **Check and save.** Compare the totals of opposite sides of the house; if they differ a lot, re-measure the doubtful side. Mark the main door and save the plan to a project. 7. **Set polarity and check feng shui.** Enter the facing degree measured at the main door, set polarity and run the feng shui check on the plan you just measured. #### Common mistakes - Location (GPS) is off, so the phone cannot find the meter. - Holding the meter at an angle, so the beam hits the wall diagonally — the reading is longer than reality. - Measuring to a cabinet, curtain or furniture against the wall instead of the wall itself. - Aiming at glass or a mirror — the beam passes through or bounces back and the reading is wrong. - Measuring room by room at random without closing the outer loop first — the overall size drifts. - Forgetting to select the right wall or the right value (length, thickness, height) before pressing measure. #### Do it in Home Check 1. Tap “Digitize”, then “Bluetooth laser meter” to open the laser editor. 2. Home Check receives readings over Bluetooth and puts them straight into the selected wall, door or column — length, thickness, width, height, height above floor: draw as you measure. 3. Once drawn, the editor calculates each room's area; view in 3D, set polarity, check feng shui and export a PDF on the same plan. 4. For a new meter, go to “Activate device” to scan for and activate it. #### Questions ##### Which laser meters work? Bluetooth laser distance meters on Home Check's list of supported devices; the brands and models are listed under Activate device in the app. Without a Bluetooth meter, you can still draw by hand and type dimensions in the editor. ##### Why can't my phone find the meter? Usually Bluetooth or Location (GPS) is off, or the app lacks permission. Turn both on, bring the meter close to the phone and tap “Scan Devices” again. ##### How does laser measuring differ from digitizing a photo? A laser gives the real length of each side, suited to an as-built plan that must match reality. A plan photo is quicker when you still have the paper plan; LiDAR is quick when you want the whole home in one loop. All three produce the same kind of digital plan. ##### How do I measure a multi-storey house? Measure one floor at a time in the same project, starting from the ground floor. Keep a shared reference corner — usually the main-door corner or the stair corner — so the floors line up. Home Check is the pioneering Agentic AI for Architecture & Scientific Feng Shui — a chief architect and a feng shui master in one app. It doesn't just answer, it does the work: precise orientation on satellite imagery, code-aware floor plans, feng shui checked and fixed right on the plan, and 2D, 3D drawings with a full analysis. #### Which devices does Home Check run on? iPhone and iPad (iOS 18 or later) and Android phones. Download it from the App Store or Google Play. #### Which languages does Home Check support? Three: Vietnamese, English and Simplified Chinese. Feng shui terms are translated consistently between the app and this website. #### Who is Home Check for? Homeowners about to build, renovate or buy; architects who need options fast; feng shui masters who need precise polarity and clear reports; investors, contractors, and architecture students and teachers. #### Does Home Check replace an architect or a feng shui master? No — it helps them work faster and more precisely. Results are advisory; for projects that need formal appraisal, combine them with a site survey and a licensed architect. ### Design #### What does designing a house from one sentence mean? You type or say one sentence, such as “5×20 house, 3 bedrooms, an altar room”, and get three floor-plan options, each scored from 0 to 100. The assistant asks when information is missing and advises like an architect before drawing. #### Can it design for irregular, many-sided plots? Yes. Pick a polygon plot shape, then drag the edges or type the metres to match the real outline; Home Check generates a plan that fits that frame. #### Do the options follow building codes? Yes, Vietnamese building codes; the assistant can explain the rules and name the document. Codes are chosen by project location, extending to Hanoi, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan and Hong Kong. #### Can it design multi-storey homes? Yes. View each floor, add floors, and all floors share one facing when you set polarity. #### Can I edit an option after it is generated? Yes. Swap rooms or change their use, add doors and furniture, resize rooms directly in the editor, or ask the assistant to do it in one sentence. ### Digitizing #### I already have a paper plan. What now? Photograph it, one photo per floor; Home Check rebuilds it as a digital plan so you can check dimensions, set polarity and check the feng shui. #### Which devices can scan with LiDAR? iPhones and iPads with a LiDAR sensor. Devices without one can still digitize from a plan photo or a Bluetooth laser meter. #### How does the Bluetooth laser meter work? Connect the meter to Home Check and measure each wall; every reading goes straight into the plan — draw as you measure. #### Can I see the home in 3D? Yes. View it in 3D, take a walkthrough room by room, and create renders from a photo of a room in the style you choose. ### Compass & water reading #### How accurate is the Home Check compass? Readings are shown in fine detail (e.g. 135.4°), with magnetic declination corrected for your location. Real-world accuracy also depends on how you measure: stay clear of metal, hold the phone flat and repeat at a few spots. #### Which mountain is a house facing 135°? The Xun 巽 mountain, from 127.5° to just under 142.5°, in the Xun trigram to the southeast, element Wood. A Xun-facing house sits in Qian (315°). #### What is the AR Compass? A compass overlaid on the camera view, so you can look straight ahead and still read the degree and mountain. #### How does Home Check find the Water Mouth? At three levels — Grand, Middle and Small scale — marked right on the map of the site, each point with a confidence level. You can also pin the Dragon Entry, Sha and Water Mouth by hand. #### Does it show wind and sun? Yes. The Measure screen shows the real wind reaching your door — current and annual — the sun's path, and automatic contour lines around the site. ### Feng shui & reading #### What is a feng shui check on the plan? A check of the whole home on a plan with polarity set: every position is coloured Good, Needs adjusting or Serious, with a score from 0 to 100 and an explanation of why. #### How does Home Check fix feng shui? Two ways: keep the layout — only move or turn items — or re-arrange; every change can be undone. When a deeper fix is needed, the thorough fix offers 3–5 scored options to choose from. #### Does Home Check consider the people who live there? Yes. Enter each member's birth year; Home Check compares each person's birth-year mountain with the door and other items and says so plainly — for example, “Main door on the Zi birth-year mountain — male head of household”. #### What is in the 9-part reading? A feng shui reading of the home laid out like a consultant's report: each room, each person and the remedies. The assistant can read it aloud and explain it, and you can export it as a PDF. #### Can I export the reading under my own brand? Yes, with the PRO tier: your logo, name, representative and phone number appear on the export. Exports always keep the line “Analysed with Home Check”. #### What is Home Check's feng shui based on? On real measurements: the exact facing degree, the 24-mountain compass, the actual position of every room and object on a plan with polarity set, and a rule set reviewed by experts. ### Tokens & tiers #### How does Home Check charge? Pay for what you use: you buy tokens in the app through the App Store or Google Play, and tokens are charged only after a task has produced its result. #### What if a result fails? When a task produces no result because of an error on the AI side, the tokens are refunded. #### What is the PRO tier? The highest card tier, unlocking features such as your own brand on exports. Once you reach PRO, you keep PRO. #### Can I transfer tokens to someone else? Yes. The app lets you transfer and lend tokens between accounts. ### Privacy & data #### Does Home Check sell my data? No. We do not sell your data; what is collected and how it is protected is set out in the Privacy Policy. #### Is my voice recorded during Live conversations? No audio is stored. Only the text of the conversation is saved so you can reopen it. #### How do I delete my account? Inside the app, in the account section; the “Delete account” tutorial walks you through each step. #### Why does the app need my location? To correct the compass for magnetic declination and to read the wind, sun, terrain and Water Mouth around your exact site. ### Outside Vietnam #### Can I use Home Check outside Vietnam? Yes. The compass, wind, sun, water method and feng shui check all work from your actual location, and the app is available in Vietnamese, English and Chinese. #### Are building codes from other countries available? Yes. Building codes are chosen by project location: Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City and international — extending to Hanoi, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Source: https://myhomecheck.ai/faq
