# Sha (surrounding landforms) (砂)

> Sha are the mounds, hills or buildings around a site that shield it from wind and hold energy. The four sides are named after the four guardians: Green Dragon on the left, White Tiger on the right, Red Phoenix in front and Black Tortoise behind — as seen from inside the house looking out.

## Explanation

Good sha are moderate, balanced and embrace the site; sha that are too tall, sharp, broken or pointing at the house are considered harmful. In cities, tall buildings, large trees and other masses are read as sha.

In a reading, each sha's position is recorded as a mountain and its element compared with the house's sitting.

## How Home Check uses it

On the Measure screen you pin sha on the map; Home Check reads the mountain of each one from the centre of the house and classifies it by its relation to the sitting. — [Compass & site reading](https://myhomecheck.ai/compass)
