# Grand scale (大局)

> The grand scale is the widest range in reading landform and water: the rivers, lakes and major hills of the whole region around a site. At this scale, the Water Mouth is where the nearest large real waterway passes and leaves the area.

## Explanation

The grand scale shows the overall context of energy — whether the home lies upstream or downstream, inside the embrace of a river bend or outside it.

Because it is so wide, it rarely changes between houses on the same street, yet it is the root from which the middle and small scales are read.

## How Home Check uses it

Home Check marks the grand-scale Water Mouth right on the map of the site, with a confidence level. — [Compass & site reading](https://myhomecheck.ai/compass)

## Questions

### How wide is the grand scale?

There is no fixed figure; it is wide enough to see the main water and hill systems of the region, usually several kilometres.

### What if the grand scale is good but the small scale is poor?

A good wider setting is an advantage, but what touches the house — streets, lanes, the door — still acts directly and needs attention.
