# The Kun 坤 mountain

> A house facing 225° is in the Kun 坤 mountain. Kun covers every bearing from 217.5° up to 232.5°, within the Kun 坤 trigram in the Southwest, element Earth. A house facing Kun sits Gen 艮 (37.5° – 52.5°) — described as sitting Gen, facing Kun. To be sure, measure the facing as an exact degree.

## When measuring and setting polarity

The closer a facing is to the 217.5° or 232.5° boundary, the more easily a measuring error pushes it into Wei 未 or Shen 申. When a reading falls within 1° of either boundary, measure again at several points before setting polarity.

Once polarity is set, every room, door or item lying within the 217.5° – 232.5° sector, seen from the center of the house, belongs to Kun.

## Questions about Kun

### Is a house facing 225° a Southwest-facing house?

Yes, but that is not precise enough. The Southwest spans 45° (202.5° – 247.5°) and holds three mountains, Wei, Kun, Shen; a house facing 225° is in Kun. Naming the mountain tells apart houses only a few degrees from each other.

### What does a house facing Kun sit on?

It sits Gen 艮, 37.5° – 52.5°. Sitting and facing are always exactly 180° apart.
