# The Gen 艮 mountain

> A house facing 45° is in the Gen 艮 mountain. Gen covers every bearing from 37.5° up to 52.5°, within the Gen 艮 trigram in the Northeast, element Earth. A house facing Gen sits Kun 坤 (217.5° – 232.5°) — described as sitting Kun, facing Gen. To be sure, measure the facing as an exact degree.

## When measuring and setting polarity

The closer a facing is to the 37.5° or 52.5° boundary, the more easily a measuring error pushes it into Chou 丑 or Yin 寅. When a reading falls within 1° of either boundary, measure again at several points before setting polarity.

Once polarity is set, every room, door or item lying within the 37.5° – 52.5° sector, seen from the center of the house, belongs to Gen.

## Questions about Gen

### Is a house facing 45° a Northeast-facing house?

Yes, but that is not precise enough. The Northeast spans 45° (22.5° – 67.5°) and holds three mountains, Chou, Gen, Yin; a house facing 45° is in Gen. Naming the mountain tells apart houses only a few degrees from each other.

### What does a house facing Gen sit on?

It sits Kun 坤, 217.5° – 232.5°. Sitting and facing are always exactly 180° apart.
